Larry Brumfield, MS was born in Gary, Indiana and attended public schools in Gary through high school. During his high school years he excelled as a scholar, athlete and quasi street thug. “Yes, I mention all of my past because I could not be what my Creator intended if I did not acknowledge the path from which he has led me.”
Larry excelled at Purdue University where he earned BS and MS degrees in Economics and Engineering, and starred as a center linebacker on the gridiron. Eschewing a career in the NFL, Larry pursued a successful career in engineering, raising a family and settling in Carroll County, Maryland.
Since his retirement, Larry has “…taken a major interest in the tragic drama of at-risk males in our society due to the impact of race, class and privilege” and is passionate about mentoring at risk youth. He has been a guest teacher in the Carroll County Public Schools since 2004. Pastor Brumfield is currently a Licensed Minister in The Mid Atlantic District and serves as Chair of the District Disaster Support Team. The Westminster Church of the Brethren is his home church where he is involved in several music ministries. Larry is a former board member of the Rape Crisis Intervention Service of Carroll County and the Maryland ACLU. He is the Chair of Equality Maryland‘s Pride in Faith, an alliance of religious and faith leaders committed to LGBT equality and justice. He is also a Founding Member of the Maryland Black Family Alliance (MBFA) and is the President of the Board of Directors of Common Ground on the Hill.
